Upgrade from 95/98 or are just starting with a new system, we suggest that you stay with 95/ 98 release B. A lot of retailers are now bundling Windows 2000 with systems without informing people that it is not suitable for general home use. After all, the original packaging for 2000 actually states that. Win 2000 is an upgrade for Windows NT which is geared for Server use and requires some trainning. It also operates in different ways from 95 and 98 and handles files differently. All in all, if you would rather have things operate smoothly, then stick with 95 or upgrade to 98 release B (2). If you use windows 95, the only real advantage for upgrading to 98, is that 98 offers the ability to have upto 9 different monitor operations, if needs must.
As Microsoft wants to move away from Dos, this version will not allow 'Shelling' Dropping into the Dos invironment. For those of you who have products/utilities that execute in Dos, problems will occour. A lot of great utilities are written for Dos and not available for just the windows platform. Usually, Dos runs on both. This version of windows, although greatly improved in many ways, is really for the 'gamer'. Once again I suggest sticking with 95 or 98. ©Copyright All Rights Reserved 1999. Webmaster Charles P. White. |
