COOKIES. Lots of companies are using 'cookies' to gain access to personal information from your system as well as tailoring information when you revisit sites. To keep your personal information 'personal', set your browser to 'reject' or 'prompt' you when a 'cookie' presents itself. If companies insist that cookies are used, do not bother with them and go else where. If a cookie is part of a product registration, insist that they give you an alternative registration system/method. ActiveX. Do you really need it? The answer is 'NO'. ActiveX also allows 'Visual Basic' type routines to automatically execute without your control, which is something you really do not want. Unfortunately, viruses are also created in this way and can get through to you. Switching ActiveX OFF helps in cutting down virus/trojan/worm attacks. It also helps to cut down 'back door snooping'. Some companies will employ ActiveX to examine your system, while others will not allow you to access some, if not all of their sites contents unless ActiveX is switched on. Microsoft does this when you need 'help' or updates. Very poor show indeed! BE WARNED ! Anyone ordering products or giving personal information including Credit Card details, be it for Insurance, Bill payments, Accounting or anything else, make sure that that site has a 'Secure Encryption System'. If it does not, go elsewhere. With an unsecure system, you can never be sure where the information lands up. Make the right choice and keep 'peace of mind'. ADWARE. Software that automatically adds some code into your system to display advertising browser pages, weather you want them or not. If you do not want this type of stuff on your system, then get yourself some software that can remove it completely. See our software section. URGENT NOTICE TO EVERYONE.......CHECK YOUR COMPUTER SYSTEM FOR ANY FILES CALLED PTSNOOP.EXE or PWSNOOP.EXE AND REMOVE THEM IMMEDIATELY! THE FILES 'STREAM' LARGE AMOUNTS OF UNKNOWN DATA FROM YOUR SYSTEM WHEN YOU GO ON-LINE. PTSNOOP was caught from behind a 'Firewalled' system streaming large quantities of data. It is said that this routine is supplied with some 'modems' and monitors the Dial up. It can be removed and is not actually required. Although at this moment in time, NO ONE has explained why it is supplied, why monitor the Dial up, what it ACTUALLY DOES afterwards, who created it and what programs and modems it is 'associated' with. We advise 'removal' as an URGENT need!! As far as we are concerned IT'S NOT A VIRUS, BUT A 'BACKDOOR' SNOOPER (a TROJAN). Most virus scanning software will not detect it! E-mail us if you have it and KNOW what it does (not what you have heard). Please supply us, with details of the file date, who produced it, what program and modems it is associated with and what data it streams (if available). DO NOT ATTACH ANYTHING to your e-mail, even the routine. In this case, the e-mail will not be read, just destroyed. Get yourself 'Firewall' protection (select here) as soon as possible to 'Stop' this and other unknown Violations and Data Theft. 'Software driven modems'. Please Note. Remember, 'soft' modems are not recommended for use in todays environments. They are also open to software 'abuse', trojans/worms etc. For a good resource and possible repair software for Virus, Trojans, Worms etc.. and virus scanner and other related products.... visit: Our Virus Help Page. ©Copyright All Rights Reserved 1999.
