Internet Service Providers (UK). Please READ this, IMPORTANT! | This listing is copyrighted and property of Charles P. White. These pages of ISPs should enable you to find the 'Right Ones' for your needs. ALWAYS read ISPs 'Terms and Conditions' and any other documentation. It is in your interest to do so. If you do not understand the 'jargon', seek advice before agreeing to anything ! Over the years, we have come to the conclusion that it is best if you get as many 0845 type accounts and test each Service Provider over a month. In doing this, you can see exactly how good the overall service, connection, support and contents are. It is always a good idea to have a few accounts of 0845 and 0800(0345/0808 etc). This way, you should have access whenever the 'need' arises. You may feel inclined to have other Service Providers which offer an easier 'interface' between yourselves and 'all the Internet provides'. In this case only choose those that offer a FREE introductory period, or at least a short period of time whereby you can terminate the contract (without penalties) if the service does not come up to 'scratch'. If you have to pay 'up front' scheme, make sure that you can get your money back if the service 'fails' to provide (within reason) the sevice or services it claims to make. If they advertise a service that does not come up to scratch, or it fails completely and they constantly refuse to communicate with you, then contact the Advertising Standards Authority. If you need advice on this or other subjects, contact your local 'Trading Standards' officer. Connections: You should first check with your 'Line' Rental company to see if there are any 'known' problems with your telephone line. It is assumed by most people that your standard telephone line enables a connection from modem to modem. That may not be the case if you are on an 'Analogue' system. Other factors like having been fitted with a DACS unit (a box that splits a single line into two so two people can make 'voice' calls), may play a significant part in the overall abilities of a connection. Always ask your Line Rental supplier if a DACS unit is fitted to your line, if your telephone exchange is modern and if your telephone cable is modern too, (not Tin or Aluminium. These still exist, and connections will be a problem). Select HERE for important information and some assistance. Finally: We suggest that you write down ALL your Dial-Up settings and anything else in a book and keep it safe. There is nothing worse than having your system 'crash' or a bit of software currupt your settings. By writing down the settings, you HELP prevent hours of frustration and probably more costs for telephone calls to expensive 'Technical support'. Providing you check things out properly and read Contracts/Terms of Conditions, you should have an enjoyable and hopefully, profitable experience. ©Copyright All Rights Reserved 1999.
